Caitlin Clark's candid admission regarding the return of the WNBA season

Has Caitlin Clark been able to rest during the Olympic break?

Following a recent practice session, Caitlin Clark shared her thoughts with the media about her anticipation for the rest of the season.

Clark noted that the break has been advantageous for her, providing a chance to recover from the physical demands of the season.

"I'm just going to try to come back and compete and hopefully have a little more legs under me," Clark said. "Have a little more rest under me... I feel like I'm ready to get back out there and get playing, but that's probably because that's really all I've known over the course of the last years."

The rookie star has made a significant impact in women’s basketball, having been a standout player with the Iowa Hawkeyes from 2020 to 2024. She was the top pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, carrying high expectations as a "generational talent."

Despite the pressure, Clark has excelled in her debut season, averaging 17.1 points and 8.2 assists per game, leading the Fever in both categories. She is also one of only two rookies selected for the Team WNBA All-Star game, alongside Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese.

As Clark prepares to resume play, she is also in contention for the Rookie of the Year award, with Reese currently averaging 13.5 points and 11.9 rebounds as a key player for the Sky.

The Fever’s current goal is to secure a playoff spot. They have not reached the playoffs since 2016, when former MVP and 10-time All-Star Tamika Catchings was still on the team. Over the past seven seasons, the Fever have only twice achieved double-digit victories, with a maximum of 13 wins in any season.

With 26 games played and 14 remaining in 2024, the Fever are currently 11-15, sitting in seventh place with eight teams making the postseason. They are in a tight race with the Chicago Sky (10-14) for eighth place, holding a slight edge in percentage points, and maintain a three-game lead over the ninth-place Atlanta Dream (7-17).

As the WNBA season resumes, the Fever are focused on strengthening their defense and making a strong push for the playoffs, with Caitlin Clark spearheading the effort.

Clark will have the opportunity to assess her post-break performance on August 16 at 7:30 p.m. ET when the Fever face off against the Phoenix Mercury.
