Kennedy provides an update on four players

Mark Kennedy provided an update on the injured players who have missed Swindon Town’s pre-season matches.

Swindon has played four games as they prepare for the League Two season opener against Chesterfield next month, with most of the squad getting up to speed. However, Ryan Delaney, Tariq Uwakwe, and Grant Hall have yet to feature, and Sean McGurk has been absent since the match against Swindon Supermarine.

Kennedy explained the reasons for these absences.

He said: “Grant is training and fit, and he looks good, but the game has just come a bit too soon for him. There is a certain period of minutes we need players to get in their legs before they can step on the pitch, and this game was probably just a few days too early for him.

“Ryan is a little bit away but coming along well. He was a big signing for us and really important. He will have a huge part to play, and I am frustrated for him more than myself and naturally frustrated for the fans that they can’t see him tonight. His rehabilitation has been good, and he is doing well.

“McGurk has a hip flexor issue. I don’t really get involved in injuries; I just want to know who is fit and who is not. He came out and warmed up yesterday; he is in a good space and looked good. We just felt the game was 24 hours too early. I’m not saying he will be involved on Friday because I haven’t spoken to anybody yet, but I don’t think it is anything serious.

“It is unfair to talk about certain players. I have spoken to Tariq, and he is a lovely kid. He is ill today, and that is why he is not here. The most important thing is that he gets himself fit and healthy again. The ins are easy to talk about because they are in, and in terms of what we may do with other players, it is far too early. We haven’t made decisions on anybody yet.

“Did he miss the other three games due to illness? Yes.

“Is that the whole reason he has been out and not training? Pretty much.”
